We had
assisted the new CIO of this major grocery chain to develop the business'
first long-range IT strategy and plan. In order to ensure that the
plan did not become another ignored, expensive consulting report, the CIO
next requested that we further assist him by putting in place a program to
monitor and report on progress towards implementation of the plan. |

Approach |

A set of IT
performance measures were defined and shared with
senior management. These measures were designed to report on the status and
progress toward implementation of the IT plan. As a result, senior management expressed an interest in having
a more extensive standard set of
technology measures presented to them. A set of six key performance
indicators of technology were identified, compared to performance objectives
and reported to management in the form of an IT report card on performance. |

Results |

Implementation of an IT
Strategy Performance Measurement Reporting Program provided the information desired by the CIO
and senior management, and also identified management control gaps inhibiting accurate tracking,
reporting and communication. Missing programs were designed and
implemented, including cost allocation, time capture and reporting of IT
resources. |
